Radiation Therapy Options

Two of the ways in which radiation therapy can be delivered with the highest precision are intensity modulated radiation therapy, or IMRT, and stereotactic radiotherapy. Both of these treatment approaches involve delivery of radiation as precisely as is possible.. The Gamma Knife, a device specially designed to deliver high, single doses of radiation to tumors within the brain, commonly is used to deliver stereotactic radiotherapy. Dr. Smith has been involved with the San Diego Gamma Knife Center since its inception, and is a very experienced practitioner of this special technique.
