There were approximately 23,000 cases of ovarian cancer diagnosed in 2000. This is a disease that is often discovered at an advanced stage. The usual treatment of choice for cancer of the ovaries is a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. Radiation can be useful in cases of recurrent disease and is generally given in a palliative fashion.
